Today is April 1st, Census Day! The Census is a count of the population of people in the United States and is done every 10 years. It determines funding for our communities, Voice and Representation in Congress, and it determines how district lines are redrawn in 2021. It takes 10 minutes to fill out the questions on the census. Everyone in the household, including children, must be counted because our communities matter. Filling out the Census is required. With many families at home now, we want to gently remind you that the 2020 census forms have been mailed out. We encourage all our community members to fill out the 2020 Census. Starting Monday March 30th, Kitchens for Good will be opening a grab-and-go meal kiosk at its kitchen to serve residents in need in Southeastern San Diego. Kitchens for Good will distribute frozen meals and fresh produce through the kiosk to community members and alumni. Social distancing will be practiced, and drive through pick up will be available. California state government is procuring hotels and motels to shelter the homeless as part of the state’s effort to slow the spread of coronavirus, Gov. Gavin Newsom said Sunday.
Any student ages 2 to 18 can go to any site providing meals and receive food during this period of school closures due to COVID-19.

San Diego Unified Food and Nutrition Services will be conducting a drive thru / walk-up distribution of daily prepared meals, free of charge. Children will need to be present to receive meals, and each child 18 years and younger may take one lunch and one breakfast for the next day. There will be no congregate feeding; all food is to be taken and consumed offsite.
